Kate wanted to transform the narrow space between the rear of her house and her garden shed into a practical covered outdoor area that she could use throughout the year. Her goal was to create a weather-protected patio space without losing natural daylight inside the house. Maintaining visibility of the sky was also very important, as she didn’t want a heavy structure that would make the area feel dark or enclosed.
The Challenge
The space presented a few design considerations:
